The Rebound Hammer test method operates on the principle that the rebound of an elastic mass is influenced by the hardness of the concrete surface it strikes. When the plunger is pressed against the concrete surface, the spring-controlled mass rebounds, and the extent of rebound is indicative of the concrete's hardness. Pavement strength is assessed by simulating vehicle loads and measuring the resulting surface deflection. A Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD) drops a known weight onto a loading plate on the pavement surface, and sensors measure the deflection ‘basin’ around the load. This data is used to back-calculate layer moduli (stiffness), evaluate structural capacity, and plan maintenance or rehabilitation strategies for the road. Test method  allows for  a  force amplitude and  duration  approximating  the effect  of  a heavy moving wheel load and  very  accurate deflection  measurements,  especially  at  a  very  large distances  from the center of the load. The output of the FWD is in terms of pavement surface deflections for an applied load.
